Current Map of Route for 2000: Updated Feb 6th, 2000
A 2000 mile trek that crossed the bitterly cold winter lands of the Northern United States and Canada.
The Pattullo 2000 Snowmobile Safari Run has been running for 16 years to raise funds for a variety of charities. Primary members of the group include George and Betty Pattullo of Caro, MI and Eugene and Joann Putnam of Marlette, MI. Their son John and nephew Robert Herron, also from Marlette have also participated in the 2000-2500 mile snowmobile runs. Again, this year George and Betty Pattullo's oldest son Pete Pattullo of Longview Texas, will be joining the group.
Most of the run in years past have been to support the American Cancer Society, which raised over $90,000 from the annual event. Other runs have included raising funds for the restoration of the octagon barn near Gagetown and for the 2000 Olympic hopeful Mike Ellsworth. This year we are raising money to support both the American Cancer Society and to help Ellsworth qualify for the Summer Olympic games in Sydney, Australia.
Mike Ellsworth, from Caro, MI, is a two-time Michigan state champion wrestler and a member of the Big 10 Michigan University wrestling team. Ellsworth is currently on the US wrestling team and has been a resident at the Olympic training camp in Colorado Springs, CO. Last year he was rated second in the nation.
Participating in the effort to send Mike Ellsworth to Sydney is simple. By pledging 1 cent per mile to the Pattullo 2000 run, you can help Ellsworth and the United States bring home the gold. Pledges are made by sending your name and address to or by sending a check made out to FAME to the address below.
FAME,
362 Green Street, Caro, MI 48723,
Also, this year we are excepting pledges and donations for the "American Cancer Society" You can e-mail your pledges for either charity or both with your name and address to safari@pattullo2000.com. All proceeds raised this year will go to the American Cancer Society or Friends of all-American Mike Ellsworth (FAME) committee to assist him in his quest for the Olympic gold medal in the year 2000.
The riders receive no money from the proceeds. Each one pays their own way, with the cost being around $1000 per rider. Each rider also must provide their own snowmobiles, trailers, and gear. The riders rode about 200 miles per day in wilderness and remote areas of Canada and the United States with temperatures well below zero. This year's trip began on January 26th in Canada and will completed on February 6th.. Participants ride between 25-50 mph with temperatures dropping into the double digits below zero after the wind chill factor. Extra fuel and supplies are carried on each snowmobile. Two of the riders this year, Betty Pattullo and Joann Putnam, are both breast cancer survivors.
