Day 7 - Feb 21th

Map of our route today!

The dotted line shows the actual route we took today, according to the GPS!

Journey in a Nutshell
We got underway about 8:00 A.M. this morning, We left Cochrane, Ontario and traveled north toward Abitibi Canyon, getting about 55 miles north, until we had to turn around and head back (just enough gas to get back to Cochrane), we then rode south to Timmins, Ontario and  then took the trail to the "Sawmill", about 54 miles south. Lots and Lots of snow here, they just got fresh snow the day before. The only major problem, was David our Support Team did not make it to the sawmill, too much snow on the roads, see related story below. Everyone loves to read the emails we get each day... keep them coming, ask us a question, whatever! just click below

George, Pete and John had to rescue David "Support Team" He got within 15 miles of the Sawmill and decided not to go any further.. he walked to Madeline and Willy's cottages and a Madeline invited him in to keep warm. She had a radio phone, so she called the Saw Mill and got Jan our Host. When we got to the Sawmill, Jan told us where David was, so we drove our snowmobiles the 30 miles round-trip  to pick him up and get gear we needed for the night. It is a good thing he stopped when he did.... Jan and Roy from the Sawmill tried to go to town and got stuck. Movie of the Day

Here is a picture of the main house at the Sawmill, all built from hand using 4X4's cut at the mill. Solid 4 inch walls with 1 inch decking on the roof. Jan and Roy's place is over 40 miles from town and has no utilities. They have 2 generators, The main generator runs 24/7 costing them $17 per day to run the whole place.

Jan whipped up some really good viddles for us! BEST MEAL on the trip! Homemade fried Chicken with boiled potato's, peas, and coleyflower. homemade raisun , cherry pies and angelfood cake with wild blueberries and rasberries...... yum yum!

Jan and Roy have had this place for over 25 years, she started serving the local lumberjacks and hunters and now the locals in town drive out (weather permitting) for dinner!
